Theme: Solidarity Through Volunteering

Every year on 5 December, International Volunteer Day (IVD) unites hundreds of thousands of people around the world to celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and the power of collective action. In 2022, under the global theme “Solidarity Through Volunteering”, the campaign emphasized the urgent need for global cooperation and immediate action to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The rallying cry, #TogetherActNow, became a call to engage individuals, communities, and institutions in building a more inclusive and sustainable future through volunteerism.
As a Communication Consultant at United Nations Volunteers (UNV), I played a pivotal role in shaping and executing the influencer engagement strategy for the campaign. My work focused on creating meaningful connections between the UNV brand and individuals with high social impact across sectors and regions.
My Approach & Deliverables:
I conducted in-depth research to understand influencer perspectives on SDG advocacy and volunteerism, helping tailor messaging that resonated with their platforms and audiences.
Next, I developed a targeted engagement strategy by identifying and categorizing over 300 influential figures, segmented into three core groups: sustainability experts, UN leaders, and social media influencers. These individuals were selected for their ability to amplify messages around volunteering and the SDGs on both regional and global levels.
I coordinated cross-regional communication, facilitating daily operations and offering strategic guidance to enhance synergy across stakeholder partnerships. This ensured consistency and alignment with UNV’s messaging framework across diverse cultural and regional contexts.
To support the rollout of the IVD campaign, I systematized the influencer network into a scalable engagement framework, structured around four core layers:
- Create Engagement – Initiating direct interaction and participation in the campaign.
- Educate the Audience – Sharing informative content that deepens public understanding of volunteering’s role in sustainable development.
- Spread the Message – Amplifying #TogetherActNow across digital platforms.
- Follow the Campaign – Encouraging sustained attention and interaction post-campaign.
Being part of IVD 2022 allowed me to directly contribute to a global movement that celebrates volunteerism as a cornerstone of human solidarity. It also showcased my ability to bridge strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and digital advocacy in a high-impact campaign.
